BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Immigration Bureau has launched the THIM app, a digital platform designed to consolidate immigration and travel services for foreign nationals into a single channel. Available since 1 August 2026 on the App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei AppGallery, the app currently offers the Thailand Digital Arrival Card and travel promotions, logging over 600,000 downloads and more than 580,000 users, or 97.2 per cent of total downloads.

Immigration Bureau commissioner Pol Lt Gen Panumas Boonyalug said growing visitor numbers are straining airports and border checkpoints, prompting the bureau, which operates under the Royal Thai Police, to deploy digital technology that simplifies procedures while upholding national security. The aim, he said, is to make entering and staying in Thailand more convenient, faster, safer and more seamless for foreign nationals.

For tourists and short-term visitors, the immediate benefit is a single channel for the mandatory arrival-card process alongside travel information and promotions, although the arrival card remains available on the bureau’s website. For expats and longer-stay visitors, more substantial changes are still in the pipeline. The bureau intends to add queue bookings, certificates of stay, visa extensions, 90-day reporting and visa-on-arrival services at authorised checkpoints, which could eventually reduce the need for separate online systems or immigration office visits, though travellers must continue following current requirements until each service is formally activated.

THIM has been built with data accuracy and security at its core, able to read passport information and electronic chips via Near Field Communication and using liveness detection and facial comparison for identity verification. Safeguards include encryption during transmission and storage, separation of biometric data from other personal information, access controls and activity logging, with data protected under Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act and hosted on Amazon Web Services in the AWS Asia Pacific Bangkok Region.

The app’s Explore Thailand feature connects users to partner businesses offering coupons and privileges redeemable by QR code or promotion code, with launch partners including The Mall Group, GrabTaxi Thailand, Wipay, True Corporation, The Minor Food Group, Minor International and Bangkok Dusit Medical Services. The bureau plans to expand the feature to cover attractions, accommodation and activities.
